Where’s Rynn?

That’s a question we find ourselves asking a lot these days.  The best was when she crawled between the couch and wall (in about 6-8 inches of space) under Scott’s “watch.”  We found her when she let out a squeel after seeing me and hearing me ask “Where’s Rynn?”

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a picture of her in the “tunnel.”

Here’s what we do have…

playing under our bed with Reece

IMG_3573

She has quite possibly learned from Rocky Road that if you sit under Reece while she’s eating, you may get some scraps headed your way.

Today Reece and I came home from Target, and after seeing Scott on the couch and briefly scanning the living room floor without seeing Rynn, I asked, “Where’s Rynn?”  Scott’s reply was a finger over his mouth and a quiet “shhhhh.”  I looked down and saw the sweetest sleeping beauty…

IMG_3574

It seems that she, just like her big sis, isn’t keen on the idea of public napping, so after a long day at church she was worn smooth out!

When she woke up, she wanted to continue lounging a bit with Daddy…

IMG_3576

Love. her.

Phase I of Kitchen Update Complete

You have to look closely to see that we sanded, painted, and replaced the hardware on the cabinets.  We also replaced a couple of fixtures.

Not fun.

Phase II: Replacing countertops

Phase III: Replacing appliances (umm, when I convince Scott they really do need replacing.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.).

2/3 Year!

*I updated the title…after typing this way past my bedtime, I realized Rynn isn’t quite 3/4 year. :)

Rynn is now eight months old, and she has changed so much just in the last month!  At seven months she was just beginning to sit up, but now our sweet girl is…

IMG_3474

crawling,

IMG_3461

pulling up,

IMG_3458

and still the happiest baby ever.

She also…

IMG_3387

eats small finger foods,

IMG_3398

loves the girl in the mirror,

IMG_3407

and still sucks on her middle two fingers (gosh darnit!).

Rynn is still very petite.  Most people can’t believe she’s crawling because she’s so tiny.  As I mentioned, she is still so happy, but she’s not quite as laid back now that she’s mobile…she’s just very eager!!  She gets annoyed and bangs her head when fed something she doesn’t like, and she laughs each time her sister cries (which makes me laugh, and in turn makes her sister cry harder).  She and Reece still have an awesome connection and make each other’s eyes light up, but we’re starting to have issues with “toy stealing.”  Rynn takes two really good naps each day and sleeps great at night (how did I get lucky enough to have two great night-time sleepers?!).  She also still spits up quite a bit, but surely that will begin to phase out soon.  She still doesn’t fuss much if we’re running late on a feeding, but she is beginning to let us know when she doesn’t like something, and she’s nearly impossible to restrain when she sees something she wants.  We may have to discontinue use of the changing table soon because she is a super-fast flipper.

We love our Rynner (sounds like “Lenore” when Reece says it) so much and she brings so many blessings to our family!

(Bitter) Sweet Relief, Daddy’s Day, Swim Report, Potty World

One morning last summer, I put my ring on like I do every other morning.  Sure, it was a little snug, but I was six months pregnant and had another baby running around, so I really needed people to see the symbol of marriage on my finger.  I guess I felt like I was being judged enough by having a baby on my hip and another on the way.

Anywho, the summer heat coupled with my swelling belly everything made it impossible to take my ring off later that day.  And the next day.  And the next.  A month later I was still wearing my ring.  When I delivered Rynn, the nurses had to put tape over it as they wheeled me in the OR because the sucker wasn’t coming off.  No worries though, because the same thing happened when I was preggo with Reece and it came off within weeks of giving birth.

With Rynn, however, it did not.  I kept thinking that if I could just lose the weight I’ve gained from having two babies within a year and a half (65 lbs gained during each pregnancy, if you must know), then it would come off.  Well, it turns out the weight is coming off slowly, very slowly (hey, I’m okay with that…I just keep thinking, “One day…”), and my tiny size 4 1/2 ring wasn’t budging.  I tried several times to soak my finger in ice water and use Vaseline, but it was STUCK!

I became desperate when:

1.  I realized it had been a whole year since I’ve had it off.

2.  The skin around my ring, including on the other fingers my ring touches, was eroding.

3.  The chlorine from being in the water with Reece was killing me where the erosion was occurring.

4.  General itchiness, pain, and claustrophobia from having the ring so snug around my finger was driving me crazy!

So I turned to Google.  I found a list of ways to get a ring off a swollen (or in my case, just plain fat) finger.  I went with the saran wrap solution.  You simply wrap some plastic wrap as tight as possible around your finger (from the top of the ring, up), then wait until the circulation has been cut from your finger and it turns blue (not what the directions say, but that’s what I did).  Then, pull the ring and the plastic wrap off together.  With Rynn as my audience, I grimaced my way through the ring-ectomy, and………..SWEET RELIEF!  (The “bitter” part in the title is referring to the idea that I would just lose weight and the ring would come off.)

This is my hand after removing a ring that was stuck on my finger for one whole year.  How sad is that indention in my finger, and the torn up skin around it?

IMG_3430

In case you’re wondering, I bought a fakey at Target, but I’m really just trying to let my hand heal before putting any ring on.  I don’t care if I get judged.  And I decided that when I finally do lose this baby weight, my reward will be putting on my lovely wedding ring that I already miss.

——————————————————

Am I a bad wife for not posting on Father’s Day or what?!  You wouldn’t think I’m all that bad if you saw all the things Scott got for the occasion.  Actually, I was just making up for skipping a gift on his birthday (What?! It was right after Christmas and I couldn’t think of a single thing to get) and Valentine’s Day (we really don’t exchange gifts then anyway, but I think I did buy myself something).   Let’s just say he really cleaned up.  And he got three cards…one from each of his girls.  I had planned on doing a post, so I asked Reece some questions about her Daddy that day:

What’s your daddy’s name? Cott.

What’s your favorite thing to do with Daddy? Juss go fissin’.

What book do you love Daddy to read to you? Two fiss, Red fiss (that would be One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and it really is fun to watch Scott read it because he cracks up the whole time).

Who loves you? Dad-dy

What do you like Daddy to sing to you? Jesus yoves me.

There were more questions, but Reece was distracted by that point.  She was probably disciplining her babies or something.

——————————————

Parent-Tot swim was an interesting experience this year.  Reece reeeeally got excited when we talked about going to swim each day.  And she reeeeally loved to tell  her Daddy everything she did afterward.  But during swim, it was touch-and-go.  She experienced just about every emotion I think she could possibly have…from intense fear while walking in knee-deep water to licking my face with glee while practicing her kicks.  From happily singing the songs to biting my cheek when asked if she wanted to go under water.  My wounds from swim also included scratches on my arms, pinch marks on my neck, and a sore head from her yanking on my pony tail, all in her effort to cling to me as best she could.  We were a sight to see.  Sadly, I think she was actually doing better in the water before swim lessons.

———————————————-

She may be a water weenie, but she’s a potty trained water weenie!  That’s right…Reece is a “potty giiiiiiiiirl, in a potty wo0000rld!” This is old news to some, but I have yet to blog about it.

IMG_2959

This picture was taken in March when we attempted for one-half day to train her…she was so not ready.  Three months down the road, it just clicked!  She hasn’t worn a diaper in nearly a month now.  Yeah for the potty girl!  Our next step is to break free from the training potty.  She seems to love that thing and insists on using it when we’re home, but I’m so over cleaning the mess!

I realize I didn’t mention Rynn once in this whole post, but that’s because she turns 8 months tomorrow and gets a whole post to herself!!

Braids, Baby Blues and Big Browns

I attempted a French braid in Reece’s hair the other day…

IMG_3342

I probably won’t do this often:

1.  Because it took FOREVER.  Cartoons don’t seem to do the trick in keeping her still.

2.  The braids looked like mush in a matter of 2 minutes.  The girl is just way too crazy.  And her hair is way too fine.

While we were playing with hair I decided to take her outside and trim her bangs.  This would be her first haircut.  Ever.  And you can hardly tell a difference.  At least I now have a date to mark down in her baby book.

—————————————————-

Look who plays together in the bath now…

IMG_3357

…it would be my Blue-Eyed Girl and Brown-Eyed Girl.  Both beautiful.

Seven & Sitting, Special Visitor, Sweet Treats, The Sweet Board, Swimming & Sliding, Smiles, Sunshiny Days, Scrumptious Snacks

One long title for one long post.

Seven and Sitting

Rynn is seven months old!  She just starting sitting up, but she has already been scooting for a couple of weeks and now she’s rocking back and forth on her knees, ready to crawl (so not fair in my book…why couldn’t I have a sweet, immobile sitter for just a while? :) ).

IMG_3279

Sweet thing!

See the brown spit up?  That would be the prunes she eats because of her constipation.  Feeding an already-spitty baby prunes makes for some frustrating clothing changes, laundry pile-ups, and carpet shampooings.

Rynn is still the happiest baby in the world, despite her stomach issues.  She is starting to show her personality more and more.

When we dedicated Rynn at church a few weeks ago, we were asked to provide a statement on what makes our child special.  I said, “She’s the happiest baby in the world, of course. “  My friend Robin replied, “That’s taken already.”  What?!  Are you kidding me?  Someone thinks their baby is the happiest?!  Instead of sitting the two babies in a room together to have a happy-baby competition, I told Robin how special a relationship Reece and Rynn already have.

Fast forward to the evening of the dedication and, low and behold, we were seated next to the couple who supposedly have the happiest baby.  I joked with the mom about having to think of something else that makes my child unique since they had claimed the happiest baby.  Enter Rynn Alise, who smiled at this mom the entire service and squealed with delight throughout the sermon.  Midway through the service the mom leaned over to me and said, “You really may have the happiest baby.”

Yesss!!!

I refrained from lifting my knee, pumping my arm, and shouting, “We won, we won!”  After all, the preacher was in the middle of giving a sermon on raising our children in a God-centered home and I didn’t think it would be appropriate.

Seriously though, she is the happiest baby!

Special Visitor

IMG_3262

It’s Ella!

These two girls had a great time playing together.  As Reece would say, “Two gulls hanging out!”

Sweet Treats

While Emily and Ella were here, we took a trip to the local cupcake shop (amazing stuff, by the way!).  Here are two “gulls” hanging out there:

IMG_3265 IMG_3266

Reece eats a cupcake like the icing is ice cream…she licks it up.  She also thinks the cake is a cookie.  So funny.

Speaking of cupcakes…

IMG_3268

Couldn’t you just eat her up?!

A few days later we were getting ice cream.  On the side of the building there’s a painted chocolate ice cream cone, so Reece told me she wanted a “bown” one.  What was I thinking?!

IMG_3276

And the car seat spectator again…

IMG_3277

Sweet Board

In an effort to cut down on fit throwing, meltdowns, clawing, hitting, stomping, biting, and screaming when Reece doesn’t get her way, we created a “sweet board.”  Reece can pick out a sticker to put on it when she’s good during certain times of the day.

IMG_3269 IMG_3270

I’ll let you know how it turns out. :)

Swimming & Sliding

First swim of the year came Memorial Day when we enjoyed a lazy day hanging out in our backyard.

IMG_3291

I’m excited to report that our “water weenie” from last year now loves the water and has enjoyed playing in her pool several days now.

IMG_3296

She even likes sliding into the water, and sometimes does her slide “tricks” (backward, no hands, eyes closed) into the water.

Smiles

IMG_3309

I told y’all she’s happy.

Sunshiny Days

IMG_3311not so sure about the poky green stuff

IMG_3319

Reece’s hair is always crazy like this.  She’s boycotting pigtails (probably because she knows how much I love them), and she tries to eat hair clips.  This is the result.

Scrumptious Snack

IMG_3333

I don’t think this is the apple that was left outside before lunch and that Reece resumed eating that afternoon, but I could be wrong.

We’re thrilled summer is here.  We spend most of our days outside (the house has stayed clean this past week!), and we’re already falling into the bad habit of letting Reece stay up late.  It’s just so hard to put her in bed when the evenings are so nice here (plus she takes a really good nap the following day).  We have lots of fun stuff planned, so we should have lots to write about, along with a few pictures!

Another Reeceism

This conversation took place in my bathroom while I was getting ready.  Reece took down three candles I have on the side of my bathtub and was apparently pretending they were her children.

“Do you understand me?  Say ‘yes ma’am.’”

She says this over and over and then places one inside the shower and closed the door.  I ask, “Reece what’s the candle doing inside the shower?”

“He’s in time-out.  He just hit me.”

Speaking to the candle:  “No hitting, no biting.  Bad candle.”

“Mommy, I spank de candle.”

Isn’t it so sad that Reece has gone from diapering her babies and loving on them to disciplining anything she can get her hands on?

These are a few of my favorite things…

…about being a mommy:

1.  hugs with tiny little arms and hands wrapped around my neck

2.  picnics in the park

3.  getting super-excited over seeing an animal (including the Chick-fil-A mascot) on the side of a road because I know my daughter is going to be 100x more excited

4.  having a happy, happy, happy baby

5.  seeing my two girls interact with each other

6.  seeing my husband interact with my two girls

7.  getting to be silly

8.  hearing my daughter ask, “Can I wead you a book, Mommy?”

9.  the rare moments that my toddler and squirmy baby let me cuddle them

10.  cutting Reece’s sandwich into shapes

11. getting so excited in the morning when my girls wake up…you’d think I haven’t seen them for a week

12.  the way Rynn follows me all the way around a room with her eyes

13.  getting a good belly laugh from both of them

14.  when Rynn blows through her lips while eating (messy but too cute!)

15.  watching Reece through the video monitor (when she’s supposed to be sleeping) and seeing all the silly things she does

16.  being amazed over and over at how much my toddler is learning

17.  watching Reece practice the “I love you” sign, then seeing her big smile when she shows me she got it

18.  hearing all the funny interpretations Reece has on certain events/conversations

19.  the way Rynn smiles with her eyes

20.  watching the girls when they’re first exposed to something new

21.  the conversations I now have with my toddler (which does include a lot of negotiating, by the way :) )

22.  the independent characteristic of my firstborn

23.  how my daughters teach me

24.  knowing that small gestures go a looooong way for a toddler and baby

25.  one-on-one time spent with each girl

26.  the way I can sorta understand the relationship of our God with each of us, just by being a parent…and realizing the magnitude of His sacrifice

27.  things coming full circle right before my eyes

28.  umm, coloring!!

29.  getting to teach my toddler

30.  getting to dance right smack in the middle of the day

31.  reading children’s books…they are some of the best books out there!

32.  Reece’s pronunciation of words (i.e. “goomers” for “bloomers”)

Some joys of mommyhood aren’t directly linked to my girls.  For example:

33.  date nights with my hubby…now they aren’t taken for granted so much

34.  girls’ nights  with fellow mommies…there’s just a bond that moms have with one another and so many friendships begin with that

35.  nap time when the house is quiet…allowing reflection and refreshing to take place

Being a Mommy has always been my biggest dream, but I had no idea just how fantastic it would be!

Happy Mommy’s Day to all moms, grandmoms, soon to-be moms, and those who are trying to be a mom.

IMG_3226And thanks to my girls who have made me a Mom!

Reeceisms 2

Nurse: How old are you now, Reece?

“Six.”

Well, she sometimes acts like she’s six anyway…I know she could give her six-year-old cousin Anna E a run for her money in the drama category!

Today Reece tried her hand at getting me to let her take her nap on the couch.  After we cleaned up from lunch I told her to pick out a book.  “Read dis book on de couch, Mommy.” I comply and sit on the couch while she lays her head down on the pillow.  “Lay down on de couch, Mommy.” She’s SO demanding! I lean back and start to read.  “Lay down wis you feet, Mommy.” I lay down beside her and put my feet up, which gets lots of giggles from Reece.  “Two gulls juss hanging out.” (Apparently she didn’t count Rynn, whom I was holding.)  Unfortunately, I knew Reece would not sleep on the couch, so she was forced to go to her room.  She cried, “I don’t yike my bed” several times, then ran out of her room and hid inside the dining room blinds.  Luckily, her giggles gave her hiding place away (she was probably laughing at how silly Mommy looked while looking for her).  I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw her eyes through the slits in the blinds, but then had to switch back to stern-mode since I had lots to do and really needed her nap today (which turned out to be a good one by the way). :)
