Today our brown-eyed girl turns two. While it’s so hard to believe it was only two years ago that she came into this world a curious, alert baby (it seems like she’s been a part of our family the whole time), I still can’t believe she’s now this smart little person who is converses with us and makes us laugh all day long. Although she’s a strong-willed child who is also two, she brings such joy to our lives.
A little background…
We prayed and prayed and prayed for this baby. Having lost our very first child through miscarriage, my heart was aching bad for a sweet cuddly baby. Not just that; I looked forward to each stage…the toddler years, preschool, a school-aged child…my dream was to be a mom!!
When I found out I was pregnant with Reece, I was elated, but cautious at the same time. You can imagine the panic I felt when I woke up one morning around 14 weeks and I was hemorrhaging…bad! I woke Scott up and told him, then we drove to the hospital, sure we had lost another baby. Much to our very pleasant surprise, our baby looked super healthy on the ultrasound machine. I started seeing the maternal-fetal specialist from then on, and everything turned out fine. The blessing of this was that we got to see our Reece in ultrasounds every two weeks for 3-4 months!!
Fast-forward to the day Reece was born…
I had already started my maternity leave and I was sleeping in on a Tuesday morning (Scott was too…this is when he still worked from home), when around 8:00 I realized my water had broken. This time I got to wake Scott up with news that we were going to have a baby that day! I knew it would probably be a long day, so I took a shower and got dressed before heading to the hospital.
Well, I was right…it was a looooooong day. My water had indeed broken, but the nurses had to induce contractions. I never did make much progress, so after several hours of labor – and only dilating to 4 cm – I was wheeled into the OR for a c-section. I was devastated to not be able to deliver naturally, but I was also so ready to meet my little girl. At 8:11 pm I did get to meet her. I remember thinking she was beautiful…and so alert!
“I prayed for this child and the Lord has granted what I asked of Him.” 1 Samuel 1:27
Reece has been a child filled with joy. I am constantly amazed by her and my love for her is overwhelming. This sweet girl has fulfilled my dream of being a mom, and so much more!!
Reece at 1 year
2!!
At 2 years, Reece loves her babies, and her baby sister! She sleeps with her bear, loves to eat waffles (sometimes she ONLY eats waffles), and enjoys puzzles and books. Her favorite book is the one shown here that’s full of Little Golden Book stories (thank you, Aunt KK and Uncle Way-Way). She’s very creative with her play, and she’s usually very social with adults. With kids, she can be a little aggressive, but she still has a sweet nature and loves to be silly.
A recent prayer…
Each evening we fold our hands and pray. One evening it went like this:
Mommy: “Dear Jesus…”
Reece: “Tank you prayer Daddy. Tank you prayer Mommy. Tank you prayer Rocky Road…”
Mommy: “Thank you for baby sister Rynn…”
Reece: “Tank you prayer Reece. Tank you prayer Reece!!!”
Mommy: “That’s right. And thank you for the food you provide…”
Reece: “Tank you prayer Reece!!”
Mommy: “Please keep us healthy and safe…”
Reece: “TANK YOU PRAYER REECE!!!”
That’s right baby girl…we thank Jesus for you every day! Happy Birthday sweet one!
